CRYOSTORAGE OPTIONS

-20°C MEDICAL GRADE FREEZER

ETL-S listed to NSF-7 standards and operate at a temperature range of -22°C to -25°C, these units are suitable for storing vaccines, pharmaceuticals and other temperature-sensitive items.

-80°C LABORATORY FREEZER

These units are cULus, CE Listed, UL, FDA Class I certified for intermediate storage of cell lines, reagents, bacteria glycerol stocks, plasma, and tissues.

-150°C VAPOR PHASE LIQUID NITROGEN

The ideal combination of liquid nitrogen storage reliability and temperature control, autofill vapor-phase liquid nitrogen dewars provide researchers the best option for storing samples below the glass transition point of water (-135C).

-196°C LIQUID PHASE LIQUID NITROGEN

The gold standard in cryostorage for over 50 years, submersion in liquid nitrogen is proven to cease all biological activity for an indefinite period of time. Only cryogenic straws and special vials are suited for submersion.

Liquid Nitrogen Storage Equipment

  • Differential pressure-based monitors measure the amount of liquid nitrogen (LN2) in the tank.

  • The TEC3000 records temperature and LN2 levels, auto-filling when needed to maintain optimal conditions.

  • Eliminating the need to manually fill our units aids Lisa Cryobanking in maintaining a regulatory compliant cryostorage facility.

CRYOBAKING FAQS

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VAPOR PHASE (-150°C TO -190°C) LIQUID NITROGEN STORAGE?

  • Storing cryovials in vapor-phase liquid nitrogen provides increased safety, while also providing increased accessibility to samples.

  • Vapor phase storage eliminates the very rare occurrence of cross-contamination from viral samples submerged in liquid nitrogen. Although Lisa Cryobanking and our affiliates have never experienced this problem, we store viral and bacteria stocks in a separate dewar.

  • Cell activity effectively stops at -135°C. As all biological activity is ceased, the cells are left in a state of suspended animation - preserving them perfectly from the moment they were frozen.

WHAT SAMPLES ARE BEST FOR VAPOR PHASE STORAGE?

  • Cell lines, plasma, viral stocks, bacterial stocks, yeast stocks, mouse tissue, RNA... Just about everything!

  • Any samples or cryoboxes subject to retrieval and opening in the next 12 months should also be kept in vapor phase.

  • Properly controlled vapor phase storage can be just as effective as liquid phase.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LIQUID PHASE STORAGE?

  • Liquid phase liquid nitrogen storage provides an efficient way to maintain extremely low temperatures suitable for effective, long-term biological sample preservation.

  • Liquid phase (-196°C) storage ensures that your samples are kept at a consistent temperature and that all biological activity has ceased, preserving samples for centuries.

  • *Only cryogenic straws and special vials are suited for submersion.

HOW ARE CELLS FROZEN DOWN SUCSESSFULLY?

  • Ideally, healthy proliferating cells during a passage are frozen down in full media ( ex. RPMI + 10% FBS), in a cryoprotectant such as DMSO.

  • Cells should be frozen down at -1°C/min in a -80°C freezer before being shipped to Lisa Cryobanking on dry ice.

  • Live cells and yeast can be sent to Lisa Cryobanking in the appropriate culture dish at 60-70% confluence. We can then test, propagate and freeze down your active cultures.
